The drive belt is a conventional vehicle maintenance project. Loud screams, battery overcharging, or even overheating are symptoms that lead you to investigate the Rubber Drive Belts of the engine and may replace them. But before you start the diagnostic process, make sure you know which bands your car has.

The snake-like belt is probably the most commonly used belt today, and if you drive a car earlier, you may find it under the car's hood and need to make a slight change. This is very simple belt through a number of accessories, crank pulley, idler or two, and a tensioner. Grasp the socket and pull the tension wheel, loosen the belt to remove it. A good way to test tensions is to push the belt over the longest possible time. You should be able to press about half an inch more than one, too loose, it does not matter, too tight. Too tight a belt can cause damage to the alternator and may damage the bearing on the pump. If the belt appears to rupture, or if the fastening to the appropriate tension can not correct the scream, you will know that the belt needs to be replaced.
